Raussmüller is a private, non-commercial cultural organization with the aim of researching, preserving and communicating contemporary art. Founded and managed by Urs and Christel Raussmüller, it holds groundbreaking works of European and American art from the second half of the 20th century. The organization is based in the Raussmüller Hallen in Basel – a light-flooded workspace created by the artist Urs Raussmüller as a concentration of his long experience with art, his pioneering institutions and cultural concepts. The organization’s findings and research results are made available in Raussmüller Publications and on Raussmüller Insights.

Urs Raussmüller is an artist who attracted attention in Zurich in the 1970s with his large-scale spatial works. His development progressed from painting and sculpture to installations and the establishment of art collections and the creation of entire institutions. Raussmüller organized international exhibitions of contemporary art early on and established and operated world-renowned art venues(InK. Halle für internationale neue Kunst, Zurich; Hallen für Neue Kunst, Schaffhausen; and others). Since the 1970s, Raussmüller has also acquired works by outstanding artists – in some cases entire groups of works and large-scale installations – and has repeatedly contributed to the creation of important works.

Christel Raussmüller Sauer grew up in an artistic environment in Düsseldorf, studied art history and gained gallery experience. She has been working with Urs Raussmüller since 1977 and has been involved in his concepts and institutional realizations ever since. She has written fundamental publications on artists and works of New Art and has contributed innovative impulses to art education.
